CRIMEA, KOMPAS.com – A Ukrainian missile attack hit the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea fleet in Crimea which was annexed on Friday (22/9/2023).
Ukraine has targeted Crimea since Russia invaded it on February 22 2022. But attacks on military installations there have recently increased as Kyiv vows to retake the peninsula that Moscow annexed in 2014.
“The fleet headquarters has been hit by an enemy missile attack,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, governor of Crimea’s largest city, Sevastopol, said on social media.

Razvozhayev said missile fragments had fallen near a theater and urged residents to stay away from the site.
In a second post, he warned another airstrike could be imminent, and urged residents of the city of more than 500,000 to stay indoors.
“Attention everyone! Another attack is possible. Please do not go downtown. Do not leave the buildings,” he said.
“Everyone who was near the fleet headquarters, when the sirens sounded, immediately went to shelter,” added Razvozhayev, as quoted by AFP.
He said rescue workers were at the scene.
Razvozhayev assured firefighters would take all measures to extinguish the fire as soon as possible.

The Russian Defense Ministry said one soldier was killed in Ukraine’s attack on Crimea this time. The ministry added five missiles had been shot down by the air defense system.
Ukrainian and Russian attacks in and around the Black Sea have increased since Moscow withdrew from an agreement allowing the safe passage of civilian cargo ships from three Ukrainian ports.
Ukraine itself has urged its allies to provide long-range missiles for their armed forces so they can target positions deeper in Russian-controlled territory.
Western leaders have hesitated out of concern that Ukraine could target Russian territory and thereby escalate the conflict.
However, France and Britain have supplied weapons to Kyiv forces.
