An integral part of Pituba, the Aquarius Subdivision could gain “independence” and become the newest neighborhood in Salvador. The proposal, which is already being processed in the City Council of the capital of Bahia, is from councilor Orlando Palhinha (União Brasil), who argues that residents are already organizing themselves in the locality as a neighborhood.

The councilor argues that Aquarius already meets the requirements for it to be classified as a neighborhood, such as the presence of a school unit, a general or specialized health unit, a public place that allows the circulation of large vehicles and the provision of services and the provision of regulated public transport.

Palhinha says that the composition of Aquarius was aimed at the quality of life and safety of its residents, having a total area of 330 thousand m² and housing one of the largest hospitals in the northeast, Hospital da Bahia, four schools (Anchietinha, Módulo, Gregor Mendel and Our childhood), restaurants such as Coco Bambu, fast foods (Mcdonald’S and Pizza Hut), a large international hotel (Mercure), gym and a business and services center (Shopping Aquarius).

“The feeling of belonging/identity of the residents of Loteamento Aquarius developed a fundamental perception among its citizens of organizing themselves as a neighborhood to interact with public agents and the private sector, in order to develop an action plan that improves their living conditions and social life”, he highlighted in an interview with Alô Alô Bahia.
