Although Jisoo is best known for her role as a singer in the K-pop group BLACKPINK, the South Korean has also slowly but surely started her career as an actress. After fleeting cameos in k-dramas, the vocalist secured a leading role in the drama Snowdrop (2021), where together with Jung Hae In, they gave life to a tragic romance in a turbulent Korea in 1987. A couple of years later, the The artist returns to the acting scene and this time she will make her film debut after being called as a special guest in the film Dr. Cheon and The Lost Talisman.

The supernatural feature film is directed by Kim Sung Sik and adapts a webtoon of the same name for the big screen. Described as a mystery thriller, the story follows a fake exorcist who does not believe in ghosts. Known on YouTube as Dr. Cheon (Kang Dong Won, Zombie Station 2), the man believes it’s all in the mind, until Yoo Kyung (Esom, Boksoon Must Die) hires him to solve an unexplained case. The horror plot is nuanced with elements of comedy and fantasy.

Before the premiere of the feature film, scheduled to debut in Korean theaters on September 27, the production team revealed images of the actors who will have a special participation in the fiction. Jisoo will play a celestial maiden or Seonnyeo who has been described by the filmmaker as a kind of “fairy.” In the plot, she has possessed the body of a famous shaman played by Park Jung Min (Bound to Hell).

One of the most striking couples from the film Parasite, Park Myung Hoon and Lee Jung Eun, get together again to play a couple living in the Pyeongchang area. They and their daughter (Cho Yi Hyun, We Are Dead) are caught in the plan of Dr. Cheon and his assistant In Bae (Lee Dong Hwi, Reply 1988), who arrive at the scene to perform a fake exorcism.

As one of the most representative figures in current K-pop, Jisoo’s participation raises expectations among her followers. Filmmaker Kim was grateful for having been “lucky” that the artist’s schedule allowed her to film, as the girl band was on a world tour between 2022 and 2023. “When I was looking for an actress who fit the image of a heavenly maiden, Jisoo came to my mind. I became a fan of his because of the drama Snowdrop,” she highlighted.
