The Benoîte-Vaux sanctuary is well known to the people of Lorraine and has been frequented for centuries. If the places and the region did not escape the perils of the Thirty Years’ War, neither this war nor the French Revolution put an end to this strong bond, which is still alive today. But the history of the site cannot be summed up only in a succession of pilgrimages. We must take into account human and societal realities, which are not immutable. Importantly, the sanctuary was never an isolate, even if the topography suggests this idea. This is why the Meuse Study Days chose to be held in Benoîte-Vaux, not only to evoke aspects of the life of the sanctuary, but also to present aspects of the history of the nearby region through the centuries. Thus the interventions will be an opportunity to discover or rediscover what constitutes the identity and memory of this territory, at the forge of historical events and everyday life.
Day organized with the assistance of the Meuse Departmental Council, the University of Lorraine (CRULH), the commune of Rambluzin – Benoîte-Vaux, the Society of Letters of Bar-le-Duc
