News spread from England about the death of Barry Bennell, a former youth coach and Manchester City scout at one time. Aged 70, his lifeless body was found in Littlehey Prison, near Cambridge.
The Ministry of Justice of Great Britain confirmed the published information and added that Barry Bennell died on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
“As with any death that occurs in prison, this case will be investigated,” the ministry said in a statement.
The England coach was serving a 30-year sentence handed down by the British courts in 2018 for abusing at least 12 boys, on whom he allegedly committed more than 50 sexual offences, which were proven against him. It is believed that the actual number of crimes may be more than 100.
Barry Bennell pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court in June 1998 to 23 counts of sexually abusing boys aged between 9 and 14 between 1978 and 1992. He was jailed for 9 years.
Judge Clement Goldstone called the former Manchester City scout a “reincarnation of the devil” when passing sentence. 2 years later, his sentence behind bars increased even more, as other cases of abuse of minors were proven against him.
