Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance shared a simulation of purchasing an iPhone 15 from abroad.
This simulation was shared considering the public’s great interest in owning the new iPhone and quite a few will buy iPhones from abroad.
“iPhone 15 has been released, how much import duty and import tax do you need to pay?” as quoted from the X Directorate General of Customs and Excise account, on Friday (22/9/2023).
The following is a simulation of purchasing an iPhone from Singapore with a memory spec of 128 GB and an example price of US$ 799. In this simulation, an Indonesian citizen immediately bought the iPhone in Singapore and brought it to Indonesia as passenger luggage.
So the fees charged include 10% import duty, 11% Value Added Tax (VAT), 10-20% Income Tax (PPh).
Item Value: US$ 799
Exemption: US$ 500
Value subject to tax: US$ 299
Tax rate: IDR 15,000
Customs Value (NP): US$ 299 x Rp. 15,000 = Rp. 4,485,000
Import Duty (BM): 10% x NP = 10% x IDR 4,485,000 = 449,000 (rounded up to thousands)
Import Value: NP + BM = 4,934,000
VAT: 11% x NI = 11% x 4,934,000 = IDR 543,000 (rounded up to thousands)
PPh (NPWP owner): 10% x NI = 10% x 4,934,000 = 494,000 (rounded up to thousands)
PPh (don’t have NPWP: 20% x NI = 20% x 4,934,000= 987,000 (round up)
Total bill: BM + VAT + PPh
Results of import duties and taxes that must be paid:
-Rp 1,486,000 (NPWP owner)
-Rp 1,979,000 (don’t have NPWP)
After calculating the tariff, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise reminded buyers to immediately register their IMEI upon arrival to Indonesia. Cellphone registration can be done at ecd.beacukai.go.id.
