Tropical Storm Ophelia Forms over Atlantic Ocean, Sparks Fear Among Mexicans

Tropical Storm Ophelia formed over the Atlantic Ocean after the SMN detected the formation of Tropical Depression Sixteen, which has unleashed fear among millions of Mexicans who see the impact of this meteorological phenomenon nearby.

According to the first forecasts, this phenomenon is located east of the Florida Peninsula, in the United States, continuing its movement over the Atlantic. By Sunday, September 24, it will degrade to a post-tropical cyclone upon making landfall, but its effects could continue in the coming days.

It is currently located 595 kilometers from Charleston, South Carolina and 1,375 kilometers northeast of Quintana Roo. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, gusts of 75 km/h, while it continues to move over the Atlantic Ocean.

The experts indicated that due to its trajectory towards the United States, it does not represent a danger to Yucatán, since it is far from Mexican territory at any of its points, so the inhabitants can take off the slope.
