SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)
Renfe enables alternative road transport as high-speed services are cut off in the section between Ourense and Santiago from this Monday, August 21, until the 29th. The reason is that, once the ERTMS security system is installed, Machinists must carry out the corresponding tests.
Adif Alta Velocity (Adif AV) has already completed the implementation of the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) train protection system on the Atlantic Axis, as well as the extension of the equipment to complete its deployment on the Ourense-Santiago de Compostela section ( LAV Madrid-Galicia).
As reported in a statement, once the reliability routes have been completed and the training of machinists has been completed in the Vigo-Padrán and Ordes-A Corua area, in the month of April, Adif undertakes the second phase, making the infrastructure available for reliability routes. training between O Irixo-AV and Santiago de Compostela between August 21 and 29. The commissioning of the system will require authorization from the State Railway Safety Agency.
In the implementation of the ERTMS system, Adif has invested 63.2 million euros – including the maintenance of the facilities for a period of 20 years – and the companies Alstom, CAF and Siemens, as well as Thales in the transition with the ERTMS system in operation between Ourense and Santiago.
They also point out that the scope of the operation – training in this system – makes it incompatible with the railway service on the section between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela.
For this reason, and to guarantee the continuity of the service and facilitate the mobility of customers, they explain that Renfe makes an alternative transportation plan available to travelers for all affected circulations.
In this way, travelers on the Avant services that connect Ourense, Santiago and A Coruña, as well as the Long Distance trains that connect different points in Galicia with Madrid and Catalonia, will be able to reach their destinations during the affected days.
Regarding Avant services, travelers will travel by train between A Corua and Santiago, in both directions, without delays in the duration of the journey. The route between Ourense and Santiago will be by road, which will increase travel time.
Exceptionally, the first daily service between A Corua and Ourense will carry out the entire route by road, whose departure is brought forward at 4:00 a.m. to allow travelers to connect with the AVE that leaves for Madrid at 6:30 a.m.; as well as the Avant that leaves Ourense for A Corua at 10:58 p.m.
On the other hand, the Alvia trains that connect Galicia with Madrid will be modified as follows. The Vigo-Madrid connection will be made by alternative route, with the origin/destination being the Vigo Guixar station. In the case of trains arriving from the capital, the road service will be carried out to Pontevedra and Vilagarca from Vigo Guixar.
In the same way, travelers from Pontevedra or Vilagarca to Madrid will arrive by road at the Vigo Guixar station, where they will continue the journey by train.
As an exception, Alvia departs every 19.15 hours from Madrid and has a connection by road from Ourense to Santiago and from Vigo to Pontevedra and Vilagarca.
Regarding the Madrid-A Corua/Ferrol connection, the Alvia trains that connect Madrid with A Corua and Ferrol, in both directions, will make the section between A Corua and Ourense by alternative route (including the shared Avant service provided by this train) . Between Ferrol and A Corua you will travel by road, as will travelers on the Media Distancia service provided by this train.
In the case of the Alvia Madrid – Corua at 2:30 p.m. and A Corua – Madrid at 6:15 p.m., they will travel by road between A Corua, Santiago and Ourense, in both directions.
Finally, the combined services A Corua/Santiago – Madrid/Alicante, will take a route from A Corua to Ourense so that the link at this station is possible.
The Alvia trains that connect Galicia with Catalua will run along the route between A Corua and Monforte de Lemos.
The Alvia Lugo-Madrid trains in both directions and the Ave Ourense-Madrid and Ourense-Alicante trains will not be affected.
AFTER-SALES MEASURES
For those customers for whom the new travel conditions do not meet their needs, Renfe offers the possibility of canceling or changing their tickets free of charge. The refund or credit generated will be produced using the same means of payment previously used for the purchase of the transport ticket.
The operating conditions in the case of the Atlantic Axis (A Corua-Santiago and Santiago-Vigo) are different and the railway circulation in this section will not be affected by this action.
