The journey of the royal couple in Bordeaux
SOUTHWEST INFOGRAPHIC
Charles III, who had already come to Bordeaux in 1977 when he was Prince of Wales, follows in the footsteps of his mother, Elizabeth II (1926-2022), who made a stopover on the banks of the Garonne in 1992.
Arrival around 1 p.m. at Mérignac airport
A visit dedicated to environmental protection but also security. If the program is known, the times are less precise. We know, however, that the king will no longer arrive by train as initially planned but by planeat Mérignac airport around 1 p.m.
Town hall and crowd bath
The procession will head towards Bordeaux city hall, Place Pey-Berland. There, after a crowd, the royal couple will meet the mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic. Around a hundred people were invited to the reception. Alain Juppé was invited, as were Hugues Martin and Nicolas Florian, other former mayors. A tree should be planted in the gardens of City Hall.
Two protection perimeters have been set up. Certain barrierd areas will be subject to regulated access, where the public will be subject to systematic checks. The movement of pedestrians and vehicles will be prohibited, except for duly accredited people, local residents, and people with a compelling reason. Residents of the areas concerned are invited to anticipate their travel, adapt their itinerary if necessary and to bring proof of address for any travel within these security perimeters.
The installation of café terraces will also be prohibited. Saint-André Cathedral will be inaccessible during the morning and early afternoon of September 22, 2023. Traffic is also expected to be very complicated in places. Tram, bus and BatCub traffic will be partly disrupted.
Frigate, tram and “British village”
Charles III will then visit with Queen Camilla, the frigate HMS Iron Duke, Royal Navy ship,
The couple will then take (a short distance) the tram from Place des Quinconces to Place de la Bourse. There the public, gathered at the reflecting pool, will have a second chance to see them.
Charles III and Camilla will then go to Great, the big event organized by the British Tourist Board. Some 1,500 people, economic players, tourism professionals, personalities from Bordeaux society, influencers and journalists, handpicked, will be able to cross the barriers of this British village. With, for those lucky guests invited from 1 to 5 p.m., the additional chance of perhaps meeting King Charles III, whose visit is announced around 2:45 p.m.
Experimental forest for the king, “Friendship bread” for the queen
In the middle of the afternoon, the couple will separate. Sensitive to the environmental cause, the monarch will visit the university research site at the experimental forest in Floirac.
At the same time, Camilla will go to the Bread of Friendship. The association manages a social restaurant and a solidarity grocery store for the benefit of thousands of poor people. It also distributes hygiene kits, in connection with one of the charities created by Charles III.
Visit to Château Smith Haut Lafitte
The couple will end their state visit with a visit to the Château Smith Haut Lafitte wine estate. A real spotlight for this committed and multi-awarded wine property.
