Review: “Should Sleep” – Moby & JP Bimeni: A Tribute to New York’s Club Scene of the 80s and 90s

Every day, Radio Nova puts the spotlight on a title. Today: “Should Sleep” by Moby & JP Bimeni

On the one hand, it is a question of a semi-return: that of Moby, never really part, but whose various projects for more than 15 years have not been intended to bring together the same audience as on the album Play, an intact photograph of an era and a real hit machine released at the dawn of a new century. On the other, it is a confirmation, that of JP Bimeni. Author last year of a wonderful album of traditional soul, his flagship title James Stern was among the best moments of our New Tune 4.3 and foreshadowed a bright future within this particularly active revivalist scene.

Together, they join their respective strength to an unreleased single titled “Should Sleep”and which is a continuation of a series of pieces already released by Moby on his new label Always Centered At Night. The idea being to recapture the energy instilled by the clubs, artists and independent labels of New York in the 80s and 90s, a period which has always had a great impact on its music. With Should Sleep, they touch these sensations with their fingertips and create a careful homage. The result is beautiful, slightly atmospheric and above all completely authentic.
