Ajax has appointed Ernst Boekhorst as the new chairman of the board. While the Amsterdam club is in crisis, the members of the new board of directors were elected on Wednesday at the De Toekomst sports complex.
Boekhorst is team manager of the Dutch hockey players and head of sponsorship at ABN AMRO. He has been elected chairman of the board of directors for a three-year term. He represents the members of Ajax during shareholder meetings. As the major shareholder, the board of directors has a casting vote with 73 percent of the shares.
In addition to Boekhorst, John Busink, Marjon Eijlers, Giovanni Fränkel, Sirik Goeman, Pim van Dord and René Zegerius are part of the new board. Later, two more people join them.
Ajax’s previous board of directors announced in May that it would cease work due to a lack of support. The members stayed on until September 1 to handle current matters.
Former board chairman Frank Eijken, among others, no longer felt any confidence from the members of Ajax. He wanted to increase the remuneration for the members of the supervisory board. Under pressure from prominent members such as Sjaak Swart, Keje Molenaar, Arie van Os and Arie van Eijden, the board ultimately adjusted this downwards.
According to The Telegraph Supervisory Board Chairman Pier Eringa was also at the members meeting. There he allegedly indicated that technical director Sven Mislintat had not been suspended for fear of legal reprisals. Mislintat’s position is under discussion because he is said to have made the purchase of Borna Sosa through a business relationship.
