Are there missing leading players in the German national team and therefore also at FC Bayern? It’s not just Matthias Sammer who has identified a problem – Thomas Tuchel is also missing a strong axis in both teams.
“It’s thin ice for me now,” said Tuchel in an interview with DAZN in response to a question about the missing characters. The coach has various players who have a claim to leadership in the DFB team in the FCB squad. For example, the central midfield players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
“It is of course much easier for Matthias Sammer to determine that and say that,” said Tuchel.
Sammer spoke in a detailed interview about the grievances in German football. The Bayern coach said: “I would say it a bit diplomatically: I thought his interview was very correct and very good.”
Tuchel: “Intersection” of the problems at Bayern and DFB
Tuchel explained: “We are of course also trying to form an axis and develop leading players. That is definitely an issue with the national team and it accompanies us.”
FC Bayern should “actually also be the heart, the core of the national team. And that’s not 100 percent right at the moment. There is an overlap in the problem,” admitted the record champions’ coach.
However, the 50-year-old did not want to go into the “type discussion” in more detail. He went into even more detail when he talked about Bayern’s sporting problems.
Tuchel: That’s due to the characteristics of the Bayern players
Despite good results at the start of the Bundesliga, the coach is still far from completely satisfied. Too often, you abandon the plan when things go against your team: “And sometimes things go against us because we leave the plan.”
For example, in the recent top game against Bayer Leverkusen (2:2), after which Tuchel complained about the lack of control throughout the entire season.
“We were a bit too greedy against Leverkusen, we wanted to press with four and then five people. We then got too greedy and pressed with six people. But that is also due to the characteristics of the players,” said Tuchel.
This is what Tuchel is demanding from Bavaria
Here too, the coach, who did not name any names, obviously also spoke about Kimmich and Goretzka.
“All of our central midfielders are comfortable doing things. “They feel comfortable attacking – both with the ball and against the ball,” said Tuchel, before once again discussing the ongoing topic of “Holding Six”. The coach is concerned with a type of player that you don’t have on the team.
Apparently it’s a player who doesn’t think so much offensively and instead puts more emphasis on defensive protection. “We can win without this type of player and now we have to,” said Tuchel: “We can certainly occupy the spaces better in our structure than we did against Leverkusen.”
