Asylum seekers: There should be an obligation to do community service

Across parties (ÖVP, SPÖ, FPÖ), the regional councils responsible for refugee care decided on the application from Upper Austria (the OÖN reported), according to which the current opportunity for asylum seekers to carry out charitable activities should become an obligation. The Ministry of the Interior should develop a model for this.

“We also need rights and obligations for asylum seekers. Anyone who receives basic services should also be obliged to make a contribution to society,” says Hattmannsdorfer. He sees his initiative as a step towards both integration and social acceptance of asylum seekers. The Greens are critical of the plans.
