TICAD: Evaluation of the Tunisian assessment of 92 agreements and 42 loans and donations
The Japanese Ambassador to Tunisia, Osuga Takeshi, declared during a meeting with several media on Tuesday September 19, 2023 that three reasons motivate this meeting to evaluate the results of the African investment summit, TICAD 8, hosted by Tunisia on August 27 and 28, 2022.
Firstly, it has been a year since the summit held in Tunisia. Secondly, Japan is celebrating 30 years since the creation of the African Development Summit, TICAD, in 1993. Finally, the third reason is the first anniversary of the Japanese ambassador taking office in Tunisia.
The Japanese ambassador presented the results of the agreements signed with Tunisia during the summit which saw the participation of 48 African countries and 20 heads of state. He revealed that 92 joint agreements were signed during the TICAD summit, including 6 agreements with Tunisia.
Additionally, $30 billion has been allocated to support the public and private sectors over the next three years in several African countries, as well as 12 billion Japanese yen to support the social protection program announced at the TICAD 8 summit in Tunis. .
The ambassador also stressed that the agreements reached regarding Tunisia during the TICAD 8 summit are followed and discussed by the Tunisian-Japanese joint committee during its 11th meeting, which was held on June 16, 2023.
He specified that several subcommittees were created to develop the mechanisms for using the loans granted to Tunisia, as well as to supervise the obtaining of the first tranche, worth 233 million Tunisian dinars, of a Japanese loan with favorable conditions.
In this context, commissions have been set up to promote cooperation between Tunisian and Japanese businessmen in the areas of investment and trade, as well as to support investment in human resources and skills.
