Julian Nagelsmann to Become New German National Team Captain: Jürgen Klopp Endorses the Decision

On Tuesday, Bild reported that Julian Nagelsmann, 36, will become the new German national team captain after Hansi Flick.

The German Football Association (DFB) then confirmed that it had a meeting with Bayern Munich’s former coach.

Jürgen Klopp, who was previously identified as the first choice, believes that Nagelsmann is the right man for the national team.

– I think Julian is a really good solution because he is a fantastic coach. I would be very happy if that happens, he tells RTL and continues:

– His age is completely irrelevant. At 28, he had already proven that he is a great coach. He has eight years of experience. Others have it at age 45 or 50. It is not a criterion at all.

Klopp explains why he was not interested in the assignment in the national team.

– I have a duty of loyalty to Liverpool. My heart is here in Liverpool. You can’t just remove the eight years, he says.

Klopp’s contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2026.
