10,000 Steps a Day: The Key to Heart Health and Weight Loss

Regular exercise is a form of lifestyle that is good for maintaining a healthy body. There are various benefits that can be obtained through exercise, one of which is improving heart health.

Unfortunately, not everyone feels they have enough time to exercise regularly. However, simple activities such as walking can apparently be an alternative to exercising.

Heart and blood vessel specialist Dr Bayushi Eka Putra, SpJP explained that regularly walking up to 10 thousand steps every day is useful for reducing the risk of heart attack.

“According to research, the average number of walking sports activities is above 6 thousand, if it is better, it is more than 9 thousand-10 thousand steps a day. That can reduce the number of heart attacks,” said Dr. Bayushi when met by detikcom.

Dr. Bayushi said that physical activity such as walking can make metabolism smoother. Physical activity is also useful for reducing fat in the stomach which has the potential to cause insulin resistance.

“If left unchecked, it can become a problem with metabolic syndrome, hypertension and high cholesterol. These are actually three friends, one of the main causes of which is inactivity or not moving during the day,” he explained.

Furthermore, Dr. Bayushi also discussed the best time to do walking exercise. Moreover, there are many myths related to exercise which say that exercise should not be done at certain times, for example at night.

He explained that there is actually no specific time set aside for exercise. However, according to him, walking in the morning has greater benefits compared to other times.

“There’s no specific time, usually the morning is best. Because it’s one day, maybe the sun will still be exposed to sunlight at that time,” said Dr. Bayushi.

“Secondly, we are fresh, we have just exercised so that we are also alert when carrying out daily actions. But chronobiologically, as far as I know, there is no special factor whether it is morning or evening,” he continued.
