A member of the “Phalange” bloc, MP Nadim Gemayel, affirmed in a speech during a symposium entitled “Bashir’s Republic: Dream or Reality” at the headquarters of “Dar Al-Hiwar”: “We do not reject any dialogue or communication, but we have the right after all the experiences we have gone through in the years.” The latter is to set restrictions, conditions and controls for the proposed dialogue.”
He added, “Our hand is outstretched and we know that matters in Lebanon cannot be resolved without communication. Communication is important, but we must set clear conditions, restrictions, and principles for dialogue.”
He continued, “If we go by the logic of ‘me or no one’ or ‘you have to accept my candidates or no president’, we are not ‘restrained by dialogue’ or forced to go to it. We are ready for a serious dialogue if it leads to results and building a future and a state that we all dream of.”
He stressed that “Bashir Gemayel is a dream and a reality, and he is present in every one of us. After 41 years, no man has influenced the Lebanese and created controversy as Bashir did, because there are two projects conflicting on Lebanese soil: a project for peace, sovereignty, and the entity of a homeland, and a project stemming from regional projects.”
He pointed out that “Bashir Gemayel still embodies the national project that every Lebanese believes in, whether Muslim or Christian, whether he believes in Bashir or not, and we affirm that there is no salvation for us except through the Lebanese entity.”
