In Maribor, the score changed only at the end of the first half. Vesel put Slovenia in the lead in the 17th minute, but just before the break Seidler equalized with his 117th international goal. In the 22nd minute, Turk returned the lead to the home team.
Despite several promising chances, the Czechs did not overcome goalkeeper Berzelak or his substitute Peček, who neutralized Seidler’s penalty in the 36th minute.
“If we score one goal in two games, it’s simply not enough. We had another chance for four games. And if we don’t even score a penalty, we don’t have a chance to score against such difficult opponents,” said Neumann.
“I also feel a little sorry for the boys, because we played a very good match against Spain and today we played very well for 15 minutes and I think we were even better. But unfortunately, futsal is played for goals and we don’t score them,” added the coach.
The next Czech opponent will be Italy in October. The winners of the five groups of four will advance directly to the championship, the four best teams in the second positions will face a play-off. The final tournament will take place from September 14 to October 6 in Uzbekistan.
“Two victories over Italy are the key. This team has what it takes to win twice. We just have to think about where we make mistakes and be much better in the end,” said Neumann.
The Czech representatives have so far competed at the World Cup four times. Their best result is eighth place in 2004, when only 16 teams took part in the tournament in Taiwan, compared to the current 24.
