Flydubai CEO Reveals 30% Growth and Expansion in Summer Passenger Numbers

Flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, revealed that “the company transported more than four million passengers during the summer of this year, between June and September 2023, with a growth rate of 30% compared to the same period last year.”

Al Ghaith added, during a media meeting in Dubai yesterday, that “the carrier operated more than 32,400 flights during the summer, an increase of 22% over last year,” noting that “seat occupancy during the summer period reached 75%.”

Carrier destinations

Al Ghaith said, “The company operates its flights to 85 international destinations from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport, and 33 destinations from Terminal 3, at a time when it currently serves more than 120 destinations in 52 countries.”

He continued: “Flydubai launched 20 new destinations this year, including: Krabi, Pattaya, Milan, St. Petersburg, Olbia, Neum, in addition to seasonal destinations.”

Tourism and trade

Ghaith Al Ghaith stressed, “The carrier continues its pivotal role in facilitating the flow of trade and tourism by providing the right product at the right time, and serving new markets that were suffering from a lack of direct flights.”

He said: “Through this, we have enabled more than four million passengers to travel this summer through the aviation hub in Dubai.”

He added: “We are pleased with the continued growth in demand for travel, especially through our seasonal destinations, as the number of our travelers has grown through these destinations, reaching 70% to Trabzon, and more than 40% to Bodrum this summer,” noting that “these numbers could have increased.” “It would be greater if the aircraft delivery process had continued on schedule, which would have given us greater flexibility in adding more capacity to many popular destinations.”

He continued: “In the first quarter of 2023, we transported more than 3.375 million passengers, an increase of 50% in the number of passengers on an annual basis.”

Al Ghaith revealed that “the number of employees at (Flydubai) has reached 5,300 employees, a growth of 14% over last year, with more than 800 employees joining during the current year.”

Tanker fleet

Al Ghaith explained that “Flydubai operates a fleet of 78 Boeing 737 aircraft, including 29 new generation aircraft, 46 MAX 8 aircraft, and three MAX 9 aircraft,” noting that the carrier received seven new aircraft. Since the beginning of this year.

Al-Ghaith expected that deliveries of the rest of the aircraft would be delayed during the current year, noting that “the carrier was forced to choose the option of leasing four aircraft from Smart Wings during the period from October 17, 2023 until April 16, 2024, and operating them to destinations such as: Dhaka, Muscat, Colombo, Karachi, Chittagong.

Al Ghaith stressed that “communications are continuing with Boeing regarding future deliveries,” pointing out that “the delay in the aircraft delivery schedule has affected the growth and expansion strategy of (Flydubai) and its ability to add more flights to a number of destinations.” .

He stated that “the average age of the fleet is 4.6 years, at a time when Max aircraft constitute 60% of the company’s fleet.”

He said, “The carrier will begin its flights next October to Cairo (Sphynx Airport), and to Poznan in Poland and Volgograd in Russia during November, in addition to Mombasa in January 2024.”

Regarding the performance of the new Cairo line, Al Ghaith expected that the carrier’s performance on this line would be outstanding due to the high demand.

Financial performance

Regarding the tanker’s financial performance, Al Ghaith expected that the financial results during the current year would be better than last year’s levels, despite the challenges of high oil prices.

Al-Ghaith pointed to the challenges of rising oil prices, which will be a factor affecting the performance of air carriers around the world, pointing out that the company will deal with rising prices in a fair manner for all parties.

Regarding financing, Al Ghaith said, “Flydubai does not face any difficulty in finding appropriate financing for its aircraft in light of the reliability it enjoys in the market, as a result of its distinguished performance over the past years, and the availability of many financing options, which enables it to obtain Competitive financing rates.

Partnership with Emirates Airlines

Flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said, “There are about nine million passengers who have benefited from the partnership between (Emirates Airlines) and (Flydubai) to more than 110 destinations, in addition to the (code partnership) with Canadian Airlines, which has enabled customers to… From reaching seven new destinations, and the partnership with United, which reached 10 destinations,” stressing that “partnerships with other carriers contribute to providing greater options for travelers.”
