High environmental quality
At the end of a so-called design-construction procedure, which allows architects and companies to be associated in the development of the project, this is the file carried by Eiffage construction with the architectural firm Costfrom Montpellier, specialized in the production of aquatic equipment, which was selected.

From the start, the municipality integrated a high environmental quality approach into the project. It imposed in the criteria to be respected by candidates for the design-construction procedure, the relationship of the building with its environment, energy and water management, long-term maintenance of environmental performances, hygrothermal comfort. (water temperature and humidity level), water quality, air quality and olfactory comfort.
Inside and out, everything has been designed with energy savings and environmental standards in mind.

For heating, the choice fell on a wood pellet boiler room, which will cover 75% of heat needs and complements the production of photovoltaic panels.
Energy savings
Compared to the current swimming pool, energy consumption must be reduced by 30% in KWh/m² of water surface. The energy mix between wood boiler room, heat pump and photovoltaic equipment of 453 m² aims to eliminate a large part of the consumption of traditional energies, gas and electricity. Once the work is completed, the current swimming pool will be transformed into a water retention basin.
Orientation of the building, choice of construction materials, search for natural light and greening of the roof were also part of the selection criteria.
Romain Broca, director of heritage and municipal buildings, has been the strong arm of the City, since the start of the procedure, to ensure compliance with each of the expected objectives.
Building, parking and access roads will ultimately occupy an area of nearly 12,000 m². Inside, the reception area, changing rooms, showers and toilets, collective changing rooms for schools and sports clubs, storage and office premises and all technical rooms are included.

The Nordic pool, whose water can be heated, will be usable for a large part of the year.

First works
The first work will begin in a few weeks with the construction of the parking lot with around a hundred spaces on the north side. Construction work on the aquatic center is due to begin at the beginning of 2024 and will be essentially completed by September 2025, which should allow it to open to the public. With the final finishes, the aquatic center should be inaugurated in December 2025.
In numbers
26 millions In euros, all taxes included, the total cost of building the future aquatic center. A quarter of the sum is dedicated to environmental and energy objectives.
7,7 millions Still in euros, the amount of subsidies expected by the City for this project, including 2.5 million euros as part of the Basque Country agglomeration swimming pool plan, 1.4 million euros in competition funds from the CAPB, 1 million euros from the Departmental Council and 2.5 million euros from the Regional Council.
Aid expected Anglet also hopes to obtain 491,000 euros from the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe), aid from the European Regional Development Fund (Feder), not yet quantified, and 4.5 million euros for VAT recovery.
190 000 The number of annual entries expected after the opening of the aquatic center, compared to 105,000 currently.
Priority on learning
This aquatic center project constitutes the main deliberation of the municipal council on Wednesday, September 20. Claude Olive made it one of the main projects of his second term as mayor. “The current swimming pool, which will continue to operate during the work on the new facilities, dates from 1974,” he explains. It has long been no longer in line with the needs of the city, whether for schools, sports clubs or the general public.”
The new Anglet swimming pool will be surrounded by lots of greenery.

“For us,” adds the mayor of Anglet, “the main thing is learning to swim. We have been developing it for three years with the “I swim, I save” program. When you live, as we do, by the ocean, learning to swim is essential. »
For Jean-Louis Bourricaud, “all the needs for learning to swim at school will be covered. We will be able to accommodate three classes at the same time, compared to just one today. This will make it possible to increase from 16,000 school visits today to 36,000 visits and to offer 115 learning sessions, compared to 45 currently. »
On a sporting level, the future swimming pool will make life easier for associations. Particularly for winter training of Angloy Bathing Guidess. L’Anglet Olympic swimming will also have a tool meeting departmental standards, with changing rooms, a warm-up room and 200 stands for the public, for the organization of competitions. He will also have many more training slots. This will also be the case for the general public, who, until then, only have a few slots in the current pool.
