Freiburg (dpa) – Due to a red card suspension, SC Freiburg will have to do without regular Nicolas Höfler for the next three games in the Bundesliga. The midfielder received the penalty as a consequence of his sending off last Saturday in Baden’s 4-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund. The club agreed to the decision of the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB). The DFB announced on Monday that the verdict is now legally binding.
Höfler was shown the red card against BVB after a serious foul against Marcel Sabitzer (81st minute). It was a key scene in Freiburg’s defeat, after which Dortmund scored twice more.
On Sunday, coach Christian Streich’s sports club will play against Eintracht Frankfurt. Höfler will also be missing in the following Bundesliga games against FC Augsburg and FC Bayern Munich. The Breisgauer team starts the new Europa League season at Olympiacos Piraeus on Thursday.
