Liverpool –
Legend Manchester United, Peter Schmeichelevaluate Liverpool can’t compete with Manchester City this season. Here’s why.
Liverpool is one of four unbeaten teams in Premier League 2023/2024. Three other teams with similar achievements are Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Apart from being undefeated, Liverpool is also known as the ‘king’ of comebacks. Of the 4 wins achieved, 3 of them occurred in situations where they were behind first.
The most recent comeback victory was obtained Liverpool at Wolverhampton Wanderers headquarters last weekend. The Reds won 3-1 even though they were behind 0-1 in the first half.
Three points from Wolverhampton headquarters brought Liverpool to third place in the Premier League standings with 13 points. Mohamed Salah et al are 2 points away from Manchester City perfect in five games.
Liverpool is also the favorite to compete for the Premier League title with Man City. Moreover, these two teams have had a long rivalry in the last few seasons.
Different opinions are given Peter Schmeichel. The former MU goalkeeper thinks Liverpool does not have better squad depth than Man City.
Schmeichel especially highlighted Liverpool’s back sector which was often overwhelmed by opponents. Schmeichel called the defense factor the main obstacle for Liverpool to compete with Man City.
“I feel [Liverpool] Can’t [mengimbangi Manchester City]. If there was a team, it would probably be Arsenal – but that is a big possibility,” Schmeichel said Matchday Live Premier League with Steve McManaman.
“I’m not sure any team can compete with Man City. We just looked at the line-up today and you look at their back four, how are you going to compete with that? [Kyle] Walker, [Ruben] Dias, [Manuel] Akanji and Gvardiol – how can you compete with them?”
“You can’t compete with them, and Liverpool certainly can’t compete with them. I agree with you [Steve McManaman]they are very, very vulnerable at the back,” said Peter Schmeichel.
