Woman of couple who wanted to take stones from Turkey may have to stay in country until December

The two Flemish people were on holiday in Turkey for five days when they wanted to take the plane home on Saturday. Their suitcase was taken out at the checkpoint at Antalya airport. The problem was that it contained some stones from Turkish soil. The two had to immediately justify themselves, because it may have involved “historical artifacts”. In reality, the couple had simply picked up the stones on a vacant lot in Manavgat, a town near a river, known for its waterfalls.

“During their stay, they had innocently picked up a stone that they thought would be nice to place in their aquarium,” someone close to them tells The last news. The couple were not allowed to board the plane after the check. “They had to wait in a cell on a chair at the airport to be taken to court. They also had to wait for hours there.”

In the meantime, the couple was told at the court that the woman is no longer allowed to leave the country for the time being, as the booking for the trip was in her name. She must report weekly to show that they are still in Turkey, awaiting further investigation. The woman may have to stay in the country until December, at her own expense, her partner says The last news. “The reason: it is very busy.”
