After criticism of The biohack project, KRO-NCRV has added a disclaimer that was shown prior to the second episode on Monday evening. It states that it is an ‘adventure-reality program’ and that biohacking is ‘not science’.
In the program, Dutch celebrities learn how to control their body and mind and receive help to deal with stressful situations. After the first episode, there was criticism in De Avondshow with Arjen Lubach, among others, because it was not about scientifically proven tips but about ‘quackery’.
After the criticism, the broadcaster showed a message before the start of the second episode on Monday evening. “The challenges and hacks shown took place under supervision and should never be attempted without proper guidance. There is no scientific evidence whether the hacks work or not, the program is about the personal experience of the participants. No medical advice is given,” the disclaimer states.
It is also explained that Govert Viergever, who guides the participants, is ‘not a scientist but an expert by experience’. “He is assisted by experts.”
