Germany has begun additional vaccinations against the COVID-19 XBB mutation.
Vaccines against the XBB mutation from Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax will be supplied.
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, who received a booster vaccine directly at a Berlin military hospital, said COVID-19 is not a cold.
Minister Lauterbach said, “This is especially true for people over 60 and vulnerable groups,” and pointed out that “subsequent diseases such as aftereffects of COVID-19 may continue to develop.”
He explained, “There will be a lot of COVID-19 infections overall this fall, but immunity has been secured across the population, so there is no need for quarantine measures at first.”
Minister Lauterbach also recommended that high-risk groups wear masks, adding that he believed German society would act responsibly.
