The Russian representative refuses to acknowledge statements by its officials and President Vladimir Putin in February 2022 that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began to combat alleged “genocide” in the Donbass.

Details: On September 18, the hearing began in The Hague “Ukraine versus Russia” in which Ukraine argues that Russia abused the provisions of the Genocide Convention to launch an unjustified military intervention. To this end, the Ukrainian side cited a number of statements by Russian officials, namely President Putin, Security Council Secretary Medvedev, Foreign Minister Lavrov, and Russian ambassadors to the UN and EU.
Russian agent Kuzmin denies these intentions of the Russian Federation and assured that Russia started the war “under Article 51 of the UN Charter on self-defense, and this has nothing to do with the genocide convention.”
“Ukraine says that Russia used the word ‘genocide’ to describe the actions of the Ukrainian authorities. But statements cannot be a violation,” he added.
At the same time, the Russian diplomat continued to insist on falsified data allegedly about the struggle of Ukraine against the “peoples of Donbass” and devoted a significant part of his speech to proving that there is deeply rooted “Nazism” in Ukraine.
“The Nazis in Ukraine come from the OUN, a Nazi collaborator,” said the Russian representative in The Hague, adding that according to the Russian Federation, there are “three fathers of Ukrainian Nazism” – Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevych and Andrey Melnyk.
It is interesting that another Ukrainian politician whom the Russian diplomat publicly accused of supporting Nazism was the current President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. “Zelensky named the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade “Edelweiss” in honor of the Nazi “Edelweiss”,” he explained.
Russia demands the court to reject the Ukrainian complaint as inadmissible.
Ukraine will present its legal position on September 19. “European Truth” will monitor the progress of the process. About the demands of Ukraine and the essence of the accusations, see the blog “Putin’s words about genocide will allow Russia to be punished”.
