STAP Budget Update: Apply Today for 1,000 Euro Subsidy and Approved Training Programs

Sep 18, 2023 at 8:42 AM Update: an hour ago

The ticket office for the STAP budget opens today at 10 a.m. Anyone can apply for the subsidy of 1,000 euros. This time we will look more closely at the training you want to use the money for.

The government budget for study costs can be requested via the UWV. The conditions for the STAP budget are stricter than in previous rounds, when signals came in about abuse of the training budget.

The money is now only awarded for courses that have been approved by the Ministry of Education. “The government will use the STAP budget more specifically for training that prepares for the labor market,” the ministry reported earlier this year.

Another difference from previous rounds is that this time there is less money in the pot. Now there is ‘only’ 10 million euros available. In May, 34 million euros were still available. A month later, that amount was reduced to 20 million.

Experience shows that the pot is empty quickly. Previous times the money was gone within a few hours. However, according to the UWV, it makes no sense to log in to the site in advance. “At 10 a.m. the queue will be drawn up randomly from all the people who have logged in at that time.”

Because budget cuts need to be made, the STAP subsidy will be scrapped next year. There will be another round in November, where another 10 million euros can be awarded.
