Anies Baswedan Promotes Closing Alexis Discotheque as Part of Coalition for Change Campaign

Prospective presidential candidate (bacapres) Coalition for Change, Anies Baswedanbrought up his policy of closing discotheques Alexis while leading DKI Jakarta. Anies said that the process of closing the Alexis discotheque in Jakarta, which had been under protest for years, could finally be done with just a piece of paper and a signature.

Anies revealed this when attending gymnastics with the people in Pakansari, Bogor, West Java, Sunday (17/9/2023). Anies was accompanied by the vice presidential candidate (bacawapres) Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin. Anies said that changes can be made if there is authority.

Initially, Anies mentioned the current expensive and difficult access to health and job opportunities. He said this condition would not continue if there were changes.

Meanwhile, to make changes, said Anies, one way to make changes is if you have the authority. He gave the example of the process of closing the Alexis discotheque in Jakarta.

“For example, in Jakarta there used to be a place, that place used to be protested, it was demonstrated to be closed. Its name was Alexis. Demonstrated for years, protested for years, all the protests could never be closed,” said Anies in his speech.

“Then there was a change in leadership, what happened, the place was closed with a piece of paper and one signature. There was no need to mobilize the masses, no need to get angry, just a piece of paper, one signature. That’s called authority,” he added.

In his oration, Anies stated that change has a sequence. One of them is having authority gained from winning in the election process.

“Change has a sequence, our mission is to make changes. The way to do this is to have authority. Authority is obtained through elections. What party is it? Who is the presidential candidate, who is vice presidential candidate? Through the voters we choose. After the election, we get authority. And authority can make changes,” said Anies, greeted by loud applause from the residents present.

“So why do we have to fight now, because we want change through authority, we have to win. God willing, with all our might, victory will be delivered to all of us,” he added.
