Johannesburg: South Africa won the ODI cricket series against Australia. South Africa won the final and fifth match by 122 runs to win the series 3-2.
Batting first, South Africa scored 315 for nine. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 193 runs in 34.1 overs. Marco Jansen who took five wickets for 39 runs and Keshav Maharaj who took four wickets for 33 runs destroyed Australia. Andile Phelukwayo took one wicket. Captain and opener Mitchell Marsh (71 off 56 balls including six sixes and six fours) became the top scorer. The fight of Marnes Labuschage (44) and Sean Abbott (23 off 26 balls) did not lead the team to victory. Josh Inglis and Michael Neser failed to get a run.
Mitchell Marsh won the toss and left South Africa to bat first. South Africa rested after captain Themba Bavuma (0) was run out in the second over. With the dismissals of Quinton de Kock (27) and Rassie Vander Dusan (30), they were at 80 for three. Hero Hentich Klaasan (six) also disappointed in the fourth ODI.
Aydin Markram (93 off 87 balls with three sixes and nine fours) and David Miller (63 off 65 balls with three sixes and four fours) put South Africa on course for a big score. Marco Jansen’s (47 off 23 balls with three sixes and four fours) and Andile Phelukwayo (unbeaten 38 off 19 balls with four sixes and two fours) also impressed.
Leg-spinner Adam Sampa, who conceded more than 100 runs in ten overs yesterday, took three wickets yesterday. Sean Abbott took two wickets and Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis and Tim David took one wicket each. Marco Jansen who took 47 runs and five wickets became the star of the match and Aydin Markram who scored a total of 225 runs became the star of the series.
