an oldie but goldie
Exteriorly, the GT4 RS oozes performance.
Our test car was equipped with the so-called Weissach package, SEK 179,300, which contains copious amounts of carbon fiber, a safety cage, six-point belts for driver and passengers and a number of other goodies.
The huge wing that makes rear visibility non-existent and the carbon fiber hood gives a first taste.
The common thread continues on the inside where you’re greeted by bucket seats with six-point belts, a roll cage, and a boxer engine sitting within reach, with no protection in between.
The infotainment system is of Porsche’s older design but does the job and the steering wheel has no buttons at all. Driver oriented is just the first name.
Roaring on the highway
When you turn the key, the engine roars and the noise level in the passenger compartment immediately becomes sky high.
First on the agenda was a roughly 25-mile trip to Mantorp Park, via country roads to feel the car’s more everyday features.
On the highway, the GT4 RS roars, but the suspension is still compliant enough that you won’t need a chiropractor’s card.
The sound level is so high that making phone calls is an effort. Earmuffs shouldn’t be needed though – unless you let the engine climb to 9,000 rpm.

A weapon on four wheels
If you are going somewhere with a GT4 RS, the undersigned recommends that you choose roads with as many turns as possible.
The journey is always the goal. Using the car for anything other than having fun is therefore like a diving watch in a splash pool.
The GT4 RS feels playful from the first moment. The gas at the bottom is met by a man’s lot of talk and workshop. The engine screeches and the noise level in the cabin is deafening.
At the same time, the air intakes are within reach of the ears, which makes the sound sensation sensational.
The driving experience is dominated by the engine that works together with the lightning-fast gearbox.
The gas at the bottom is met by a low mechanical screech that turns into a mechanical symphony that is close to deafening.

Fun on four wheels
Although the Cayman GT4 RS does well on the road, not least compared to its more extreme sibling the 911 GT3 RS, the track is the most appropriate place to push the car’s limits.
We were given the opportunity to race the GT4 RS completely alone on the track for a number of laps. The undersigned jumped from a GT3 RS directly to a GT4 RS in order to compare the two track cars.
The GT4 RS is perceived as significantly more playful, which can be attributed to the fact that the car is more accommodating and less predictable than its razor-sharp sibling.
Rewards the driver
The result is a car that doesn’t need to be driven as hard and that rewards you as a driver even at lower speeds.
That said, the GT4 RS has more of a tendency to bite back if you, as a driver, take on too much, which I’d argue only adds to how brilliant it is to drive.
The two cars offer distinctly different character, which undoubtedly makes them suitable for different types of drivers.

The bottom line
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is suitable for those where the joy associated with track driving comes from the interaction with the car.
The 911 GT3 RS is in place of those who could shave off all their hair to save thousandths on a lap time.
That said, the latter car is for the better driver.
The vast majority of people, regardless of how good you think you are, will not come close to the full potential of the GT3 RS. It’s when you start pushing the car’s limits that it really comes alive.
The Cayman GT4 RS has a playful side that permeates the entire driving experience. Its more toxic side makes it more playful and mischievous.
The result is a car that is absolutely sensational when it comes to driving pleasure, which is a dream for anyone who loves to drive.
