Juška started only once in the regular part of the Diamond League. As the seventh man from the World Championships in Budapest, he finished fourth in Zurich and was not lost among the elite this time either. For the fifth time in the season, he recorded an eight-meter performance in the race. His fourth attempt measured 807 centimeters, in the end he improved by three centimeters. After Saturday’s triumph of javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch, he took care of the second Czech performance in this year’s final.
“At the end of the season 810, without a board. It was great. So I expected it could be more at the end of the season, which it would be if I hit the board right. Then it could be the 825. But on history doesn’t ask that,” said the Czech record holder.
He took the next step to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris. “We are planning the Olympics as the highlight of the next season, I could move closer with these points,” reflected Juška. He will have to rely on his position in the world rankings if he does not jump the sharp limit of 827 centimeters at the beginning of the next season.
After four years, Tsegay returned the world record to Ethiopian possession, before Kipyegon, the world record holder was Letesenbet Gidey. Two-time world champion Tsegay holds the second all-time record, she has been the indoor world record holder for 1500 meters for two years.
The second European record in the final weekend was run by Jakob Ingebrigtsen. After Saturday’s triumph in the mile, the star Norwegian shined in the 3000 meters race, where he got a wild card. He improved his own continental maximum from this year’s Paris by 37 hundredths to 7:23.63 minutes. He had to fight hard for the victory, at the finish line he defended it by a hundredth of a second ahead of the chasing Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha.
The finals were also decorated with the best women’s high-altitude competition this year. The Ukrainian Jaroslava Mahučichová and the Australian Nicola Olyslagersová broke the bar at a height of 203 centimeters, which also improved their joint best performance of the season by a centimeter. Thanks to a better record, Mahučichová won.
