DThe consequences of storms and natural disasters were among the Germans’ greatest fears last year; in recent months, numerous storms and heavy rain have hit the state of Hesse – some with significant consequences. R+V Versicherung from Wiesbaden advises that after such incidents, you should take a close look at what damage the storm caused to your own property.

According to the group, damage to garages and other direct outbuildings is generally covered by residential building insurance. The danger, however, is that damage will not be noticed at first, such as leaks on the roof, says R+V expert Christine Gilles. Rain could then penetrate and lead to damp spots on the masonry – and in the long term, for example, unhealthy mold.
