On Monday the opening of the exhibition “Ceramics from the Eastern and Western markets, in Epirus”

On Monday, September 18 at 6:30 pm, in the Dionis Hall of the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, the opening of the exhibition “Ceramics from the markets of the East and West, in Epirus” will take place. The opening will be accompanied by a musical event with Dimitris Yfantis.

The exhibition is held in collaboration with the Museum of Ali Pasha and the Revolutionary Period and presents selected items from the museum’s collection of newer ceramics from Epirus, which are the fruit of years of collecting activity by Mr. Fotis Rapakousis.

These are ceramic utensils and objects dating from the 18th to the 20th century. and are often found in the houses of Ioannina and other mountain settlements in the region. They were imported to Epirus from important trade centers in Italy (Pesaro, Apulia), Asia Minor, (Iznik, Keutachia, Canak Kale) and central and northern Europe (France, England, Holland), while others come from important Greek pottery workshops of 19th and 20th centuries, which were inspired by the aesthetics of the East.

These objects reveal a wide network of trade routes that connects Ioannina with the most important ceramic production centers, while at the same time they reflect the taste and habits of the Epirotians of the time as they were shaped by their contact with new cultural and artistic currents.

The collaboration with the Museum of Ali Pasha and the Pre-Revolutionary Period in the context of this exhibition proves to be particularly fruitful and creative and contributes to the presentation to the general public of an important part of the latest local history and cultural identity.
