Sweden’s government is doubtful that Catalan, Basque and Galician will become official languages within the EU.
Now the government has got Pep Guardiola himself after him.
– This is a message to Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, he says in a video.
Pep Guardiola was born in Catalonia, in a community called Santpedor, and over the years has been a champion of their independence.
When the next ministerial meeting at EU level is held, on Tuesday 19 September, a vote will be held to decide whether Catalan, Basque and Galician will become official languages within the EU.
Today there are 24 official languages in Europe and for a change to take place it is required that all 27 EU member states vote yes.
“I ask Sweden”
The problem is that Sweden and France, among others, are hesitant.
It has caused Catalonia to go on the offensive. Manchester City’s super coach has therefore recorded one videouppmaning to Sweden.
– This is a message to Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Our language is thousands of years old and spoken by ten million people and is part of the European cultural heritage of which we are all proud. I ask Sweden to recognize Catalan, my language, as an official language in the Union, he says, among other things.
French President Emmanuel Macron has also received a similar video.
