The ‘Make sense campaign’, a European education and awareness campaign on the early diagnosis of head and neck tumors, promoted in Italy by the Italian Association of Cervical-Cephalic Oncology (Aiocc), returns from 18 to 22 September. The Valle d’Aosta Local Health Authority also joins the initiative, coordinated by the complex ENT structure directed by Dr. Antonella De Stefani.
On Tuesday 19 September the specialists will visit the clinic number 22 of the Parini hospital in Aosta (Piastra) free of charge from 3pm to 6pm. Access is by appointment only, by calling Monday 18 September from 10am to 12pm on 0165 54 44 81 .
“The number of these tumors in our region is quite stable, but – underlines De Stefani – more serious cases arrive, where the symptoms have been underestimated for a long time. Prevention is also very important because one of the major risk factors for head tumors -neck is the difficulty in identifying them: they present common symptoms, which we tend to associate with seasonal diseases such as a common sore throat or a cold or, very often, to ignore”.
A rapid understanding of the signs of the disease is crucial for an early diagnosis, in the presence of which the survival rate rises to 80-90%. In fact, the motto of the 2023 Italian edition of the “Make sense campaign” underlines that “one symptom for three weeks is the rule to always keep in mind when it comes to the symptoms of cervico-cephalic carcinomas”.
