A car sedan explodes on Purbaleunyi Toll Road, precisely in the Pasirkoja area, Bandung City. The sedan driver, who was still in the car, could not be rescued and died.

A Corolla sedan with the number plate D-1167-OW burned down after exploding at Km 130+300 of the Purbaleunyi Toll Road, precisely in the Pasirkoja area, Bandung City, Friday (15/9) last night. West Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate Commissioner Pol Wibowo said the police received a report of a burning car on the Purbaleunyi Toll Road at 19.15 WIB.
According to Wibowo, when officers arrived at the location, the sedan in the right lane had already stopped at the road divider.
“At around 19.15 WIB last night, we received a report that a vehicle was on fire. Our members and the toll road officers came, this car was already in lane 3, already close to the median of the road,” said Wibowo, as reported detikJabarSaturday (16/9/2023).
At that time, the car was already emitting smoke and the driver was still inside. When they were about to be rescued, the driver did not respond, while the fire was getting bigger. As a result, the driver died at the scene.
“The car was still smoking, we tried to help, we broke the glass, but because there was no response, the fire finally grew and after the fire was extinguished we found one of the victims dead there,” he said.

Driver Trapped in Car
Purbaleunyi Toll Road Jasa Marga Area Manager Agus Pramono said the incident started when the Corolla sedan was driving off track one. Then, a witness saw the sedan suddenly swerve to the right and stop in lane three.
“After being approached by the witness, the victim was unconscious in his vehicle,” said Agus when confirmed.
Two drivers then intended to remove the Corolla sedan driver who was already unconscious. Suddenly, the sedan exploded and caused a fire.
“The witness tried to help by opening the door, but it was locked. Then he broke the left side door glass, suddenly the vehicle exploded and caught fire,” he said.
Identity of the Dead Sedan Driver
The driver of the sedan that caught fire on the Purbaleunyi Toll Road was Rangga Erlangga (37), a resident of East Cibuntu, Bandung Kulon, Bandung City. The victim is still in hospital for further examination.
“We have taken them to Sartika Asih Hospital and identified them in collaboration with the Inafis Criminal Investigation Team to investigate the cause of the fire, including the identity of the victim. Thank God, this morning someone from the family came,” explained West Java Regional Police Traffic Director Commissioner Wibowo.
The Mystery of the Cause
A sedan caught fire on the Purbaleunyi Km 130 toll road on Friday (15/9/2023) and resulted in the driver dying. Police are still investigating the mystery of the cause of this deadly incident.
It is known that a Corolla sedan with the number plate D-1167-OW burned down on the right lane of the Purbaleunyi Toll Road. At the scene, the driver was reportedly trapped and could not be helped.
Eyewitnesses at the location were about to take the victim out. However, the victim is thought to have been unconscious and caught fire in the car sedan that exploded on the Purbaleunyi Toll Road. West Java Police Traffic Directorate Commissioner Wibowo said his party was still investigating the incident.
“We are still investigating this,” said Wibowo, Saturday (16/9/2023).
According to Wibowo, from the video circulating at the location, it is possible that the fire came from the car engine.
“If you look at the existing video, it was from the engine, but we are still investigating it, the Criminal Investigation Unit is looking for the cause of the fire,” he said.
