Budget Commission Approves $456 Million Supplementary Credit for Public Entities

The money will be used to meet accounts payable for expired terms, payments for environmental emergencies and other obligations of 19 public entities.

The Budget Commission of the National Assembly (AN) approved a supplementary credit to the General State Budget for the fiscal year 2023, in the order of $456 million.

The money will benefit 19 public entities, including the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.

Carlos González, Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, was in charge of supporting Resolution No. 101 of August 30, 2023, in which the Cabinet Council requested the amount detailed above.

González said that the objective is to address accounts payable for expired terms, payments for environmental emergencies and other obligations of different entities.

For example, the MOP will be granted $43 million with the mission of continuing road infrastructure projects.

Of that total, some $30,789,224.81 will cover payments for different construction companies that execute road network improvement projects developed by the MOP throughout the country.

While $12,210,775.19 will be transferred for the work “Design, construction for the rehabilitation of the Gatún-Miguel de la Borda highway, province of Colón”, which is currently 94% complete.
