NATO’s defense chiefs gathered in Holmenkollen

This weekend, NATO’s military committee is gathered in Holmenkollen in Oslo for the annual conference.

Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen hosts NATO’s defense chiefs.

– I am very pleased to have our neighbors Finland and Sweden here. Finland, which is our latest member, and Sweden, which will soon become a member. The integration of all Nordic countries into the NATO alliance is good for Norway, for the Nordic countries and for NATO, says Kristoffersen.

Norway’s Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) is also present at the meeting. He said that Norwegian support for Ukraine will continue, and that there is agreement between all parties in Norway on this.

In the opening speech on Saturday morning, Admiral Rob Bauer spoke about Ukraine and NATO. He quoted, among other things, the motto of the Norwegian Armed Forces, also in Norwegian.

– We fight “for everything we have and everything we are”, says Bauer.

– Ladies and gentlemen. When Sweden joins NATO, we will have 3.5 million brothers and sisters in uniform protecting our great alliance, says Bauer.

The conference also held a minute’s silence for those who sacrifice their lives in the conflicts in which NATO participates.

During the summit in Vilnius in July, NATO’s political level decided to strengthen the alliance in several areas. The goal is to change the alliance from being focused on international operations to defending its own territories, the government writes about the meeting on its websites.

The defense commanders gather to discuss the implementation of the decisions from Vilnius. This includes increased preparedness, modernisation, introduction of command structures, better logistics and more joint training.
