Amsterdam was shocked by several explosions on Friday evening and into Saturday night. No injuries were reported, but there was damage to several homes. A twenty-year-old suspect has been arrested.
An explosion took place in a street in Bijlmer-Oost around 4:30 am. No one was injured. The police arrested a twenty-year-old Amsterdam resident in the area. The police are investigating whether he has anything to do with the explosion and are asking witnesses to come forward.
There were three other explosions in Amsterdam on Friday evening. Within hours, explosions caused damage to homes and an apartment complex in the North district, on Zeeburgereiland and IJburg.
The first explosion was around 8:15 p.m. at Eef Kamerbeekstraat on Zeeburgereiland, in a porch at an apartment complex. The second explosion happened around 9:15 p.m. on the Vijgepeerpad in the North district, near the front door of a house. Just after 11 p.m. an explosion took place in Galjootstraat on IJburg, again near a front door. No one was hurt.
The police report that they are investigating whether the incidents are related and what the possible role of the arrested suspect is in this.
