The Ultra-Modern Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Campus: A New Neighbor for IUT of Thionville-Yutz and Industrial Careers Training Center

The IUT of Thionville-Yutz and the Industrial Careers Training Center have a new neighbor: the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Campus opened its doors this week. The ultra-modern building with its sleek look accommodates 123 students in digital design and medical imaging. They tell us about their new daily life.

Raw concrete on the walls; wood everywhere; shades of muted colors and light, a lot, everywhere. Welcome to the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Campus, this new ultra-modern establishment built a stone’s throw from the IUT in the Cormontaigne area.

An extension of the eponymous high school located in Algrange, the Campus hosts two bac +3 training courses: the national diploma in crafts and design (DNMADE) and the DTS in medical imaging and therapeutic radiology. In total, 123 students returned to school this week and the feedback is more than positive.

Privileged conditions

Jean-Philippe Thiry, the director, provides the visit. From the entrance hall, the eye is caught by the chic minimalist decor and the XXL wooden ceiling lights which seem to float in the air. “The ground floor is reserved for medical imaging. We have equipped the rooms with more modern equipment, with interactive digital boards.” The teacher of the day whom we have just interrupted in the middle of an obstetric ultrasound lesson stops suddenly: “It’s top of the range! » As throughout the establishment, the furniture is modular to facilitate work in small groups.

In the opposite wing are the foyer with benches and high tables as well as a work room organized like a coworking office “like what we can see in English universities […] We wanted to put our students in the best possible material conditions,” underlines the director.

The first floor is reserved for future creatives. Here too, the latest computer equipment adds to the quality of teaching. A work room and a rest room are intended for teachers. At the end of the corridor, not all the classrooms are occupied: the establishment leaves itself some room to maneuver to increase the capacity of its promotions, or even to change the teaching offer. “This school year already, we have been able to open 30 places in the first year of medical imaging compared to 24 previously,” underlines the training manager.

Being “fully a student”

Émeline, 20 years old, future radiology technician, knew the Algrange premises. “Everything is bigger, more beautiful, more practical!” In Algrange, we had the impression of being less autonomous. Here, you can eat at Crous at lunchtime, come and go as you want without having to justify yourself.” Marion shares this feeling of being “fully a student”: “Last year, I rented an apartment in Algrange. This year, I found a roommate in Yutz. It’s more central; the station is not far away.” Grégoire, who is starting his third year of DNMADE, remains convinced that the central position of the Campus will give more visibility to the diploma. That’s enough, don’t throw any more away: the Campus is back on track!
