WhatsApp CEO Denies Reports of Placing Ads on Messaging Platform: Meta Discusses Revenue Increase Strategies

Today, Friday, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcarter denied a report by the British newspaper Financial Times that said that the messaging platform owned by Meta is studying the possibility of placing ads in its quest to increase revenues.

The CEO said – in a post on the “X” platform – that the Financial Times report is incorrect, “and we do not do this.”

The report had stated that Meta work teams were examining the possibility of displaying advertisements in conversation lists with contacts on the WhatsApp chat screen, but no final decisions had been made, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The newspaper added that Meta is also studying whether to charge a subscription fee to use the application without ads. She noted that the move faced opposition from many within the company.

Facebook – whose name later changed to Meta – bought the WhatsApp application in 2014 for $19 billion.
