August Trade Balance Surplus in Jakarta: Exports Exceed Imports

Balance of trade In August, Indonesia again recorded a surplus. A surplus occurs because the value of exports is greater than imports.

The trade balance in August returned to a surplus with a value of US$ 3.12 billion. The export value in August was US$ 22 billion while imports were US$ 18.88 billion.

“Imports in August 2023 reached US$ 18.88 billion, which is down 3.53% compared to July 2023,” said Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in a press conference, Friday (15/9/2023).

He explained further that oil and gas imports in August were US$ 2.66 billion or down 15.01% compared to July. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports were US$ 16.22 billion or down 1.34%.

“Looking in more detail, oil and gas imports in August 2023 were valued at US$ 2.66 billion, down 15.01% compared to July 2023. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports in August 2023 reached US$ 16.22 billion or down 1.34% compared to July 2023. ,” he said.

He continued, the decline in oil and gas imports by 15.01% in August was due to crude oil imports falling by 46.46%.

“The decrease in for mega by 15.01% was due to imports of crude oil which fell by 46.46%. Meanwhile, the decrease in oil and gas imports of 1.34% was contributed by the commodity of boats and floating structures HS 89, a decrease in the group of goods, electrical equipment, machines and their parts, HS 85, fertilizers HS 31 and silver metal ore and HS 26 ash,” he said.
