Hurricane Lee Brings Strong Waves and Storm Surge to New York Region

Hurricane Lee will not directly impact New York, as it will remain in open waters, however, the winds and rain will bring strong waves to the region.

The National Weather Service issued a warning for high waves and storm surge for several counties.

The Kings area of Brooklyn, southwestern and southern Suffolk, which includes the Long Island area and the coastal part of Queens are part of this warning.

The warning will remain in place until Saturday night.

Stephanie Viés, from Univision 41’s Weather Guardians, pointed out that strong winds are also expected during the afternoon of Friday and Saturday.

“This is the risk we have associated with Hurricane Lee, it is going to stay in open waters, but all this circulation is going to cause these conditions,” he explained.

“The beaches are permanently closed, it is not recommended to go when there are no lifeguards or they are closed, it is never recommended but now the waters are going to be dangerous for the next few days,” he said.

Despite the hurricane’s close passage, heavy rain is not expected in New York City over the weekend.
