FIFA announced the list of nominees for best male player 2023. Name Lionel MessiKylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland return, meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo absent again, repeating what happened in the announcement of the Ballon d’Or nominations.
Nominated male players in The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 announced on Thursday (14/9) evening WIB. Apart from that, there are also nominations for the best coach and goalkeeper. Three similar categories also exist for the women’s soccer sector.
For the men’s category, the assessment taken by FIFA refers to performance from 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023, or after the Qatar World Cup. Meanwhile, for the women’s category, the scoring is calculated from August 1 2022 until the 2023 Women’s World Cup final on August 20.
In the men’s category, Manchester City, which won the treble last season, is very dominant. They are represented by six outfield players (including Ilkay Guendogan), one goalkeeper and one manager. Meanwhile in the women’s category, there is Barcelona Femeni which has seven people in the nominations.
Football fans can take part in determining the winner through voting on the FIFA website, which starts from 14 September to 6 October 2023.
