Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
England national team defender Harry Maguire gave his response after receiving boos from Scottish fans after he scored an own goal.
Harry Maguire is back in the spotlight after scoring an own goal when England won 3-1 over Scotland in a friendly match at Hampden Park, Glasgow, Wednesday (13/9) early morning WIB.
The Manchester United player came on as a substitute at the start of the second half. Maguire replaces Marc Guehi.
Maguire was introduced when the Three Lions were leading 2-0 thanks to goals scored by Phil Foden in the 32nd minute and Jude Bellingham (35th).
Maguire’s own goal came after 22 minutes on the pitch. Maguire tried to block Scottish player Andy Robertson’s low pass on the right side of the penalty box but the ball headed towards the England goal without goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale being able to anticipate it.
Maguire’s blunder made the match score tight again at 1-2. However, Maguire was lucky because England were able to pull away again thanks to Harry Kane’s goal in the 81st minute which made the match end with a score of 3-1.
However, after scoring an own goal, Maguire received boos from Scottish fans. But Maguire admitted that he had no problem with this.
Maguire described the treatment of Scotland fans as ordinary banter.
“It just takes the pressure off my teammates and puts it all on myself,” Maguire was quoted as saying Sportstar.
“We knew coming here when you heard the national anthem and the way they disrespected it, we knew it would be full of hostility and in the second half I understood that. I’m happy to do it, don’t worry about it,” added Maguire.
