Struggles Ahead for Ascendant Studios: Layoffs and Uncertain Future for Immortals of Aveum

I really like Immortals of Aveum, but there’s no doubt that Ascendant Studios’ first game will struggle. General words before launch sounded like most people thought it looked pretty generic and simple, comparisons to Forspoken didn’t quite do it justice. That’s one of the reasons why you actually decided to round off the 8,5 on our scale to 9, hopefully this will make more people realize that it’s a lot better than a lot of people would have you believe. Unfortunately, this is not enough.

Brett Robbins, the studio’s founder, CEO and Immortals of Aveum game directordisclose, Ascendant Studios was forced to lay off almost half of its staff, 45% to be exact, due to poor sales of Immortals of Aveum. Awful might even be an understatement, as you rarely hear something like this happen in a game even a month ago.

When I visited the studio earlier this year, one of the developers told me that they had about 100 people, which means more than 40 talented game creators lost their jobs today.

The little bit of merchandise news is that the studio will continue to work on the game and the Immortals of Aveum universe, which means I shouldn’t give up hope on seeing a sequel and/or TV show, even if that news certainly doesn’t say that.
