The brigade was inspired by Russian forces who have attempted the same during the war in Ukraine.
– A decision was made to use a similar tactic and see if it would be effective or not, says Major Yaroslav Galas to the American online newspaper.

Was filled with one and a half tons of explosives
According to Galas, Ukrainian forces had hijacked the T-62 tank from the Russians. Soldiers from the brigade filled the vehicle with one and a half tonnes of explosives before it drove towards the Russian positions.
Due to the dangerous nature of the assignment, the driver had to volunteer.
– It is very, very dangerous. So the commander gave no order. They asked for a volunteer, says the major.

The Ukrainian soldier Vasil Dudinets took on the mission.
– I was fully aware that I might not want to come back. Death would have occurred immediately if the tank had been hit and the explosives had gone off, says Dudinets.

Dudinets was equipped with a detonator with which he could set off the improvised rolling bomb. However, he was unable to do that when the tank ran over a mine and exploded with tremendous force.
According to the Ukrainian brigade, the tank exploded around 50 meters from the Russian position. Major Galas claims that position was no longer a concern for the Ukrainian forces after the explosion.

Former general: – Idiot
After a video of a Russian tank going airborne in the same way circulated earlier this year, the tactic was slammed by retired US general Mark Hertling.
– Load a tank full of explosives, have a volunteer drive it, then jump out. What an idiotic way to conduct armored operations by the Russians, he signed X / Twitter in June.
