After another meeting of the football giants, especially after the draw with Albania, a lot was written about coach Šilhavé. More than one journalist, but above all a football fan, talked about his necessary dismissal.
Can’t disagree.
The coach was mainly criticized for his tactical steps in the match against Albania. Although the Czech Republic had the upper hand, they conceded at the end of the match and the group for promotion to the Euros was suddenly even.
His substitutions are especially incomprehensible. The best player Václav Černý left the field, for example the star player Jurečka, who scored only one goal in this league season, came on. History probably doesn’t ask that it was from a penalty, but it’s important to mention it in context.
In the eighty-sixth minute, the final pressure of the Czech Republic comes and the coach replaces Ladislav Krejčí, who made a lot of mistakes, but in my opinion played decently. Probably no one told the coach that together with the untouchable (but great, I don’t take that away from him) Tomáš Souček, he is the best header on the field, who can come in handy in the last minutes.
A lot of negative things were written and said about the coach, so I don’t want to repeat anything. I fully agreed with most of the decent and factual criticism.

Jaroslav Šilhavý, the untouchable
However, I want to respond to the words of Petr Fousko, the chairman of the Football Association of the Czech Republic. And I declare in advance that I was absolutely not surprised by his statement. It was enough that the association extended Jaroslav Šilhavé’s contract after the botched qualification for the World Cup in Qatar. This alone shows that the coach of the Czech midfielder does not need to show quality and prove to anyone that he is the right one.
“Criticism is part of football, and of course we are not happy with the home loss to Albania, but some of the comments were out of line. The views may be different and we are all disappointed, but in no case can we allow panic, on the contrary, it is necessary to keep a cool head, especially in the qualifiers played, when other matches are played in a month. I am convinced that the players and coaches know what they have to change and improve in October and that we have to face the situation with hard work and improved performances in Albania and at home with the Faroe Islands,” said Fousek in an interview for association website.
I don’t know with that cool head. The group from which it seemed impossible not to advance is now so balanced that perhaps the Czech Republic will miss the Euros for the first time in history. Yes, hares are counted only after the hunt, that’s why I say maybe, but just the fact that we don’t have a comfortable position after halfway through the qualification is a shame. And I am fully aware that opponents in football are more and more equal.
With the dismissal of coach Šilhavý, it was already too late yesterday. Because if we go to the Euro, nothing will change. The association will automatically extend the coach’s contract and everything will be as before.
By the way, the German rep now recalled Hansi Flick (formerly Bayern). I am not implying anything, because such an engagement is probably unrealistic. But we should definitely not rule out the possibility of hiring a foreign coach. Sparta broke the myths and showed after terrible experiences that this can be the way.
However, national team football is, of course, something else. However, the Italian Calzona Slovakia also visibly lifted, although the beginnings were not ideal. I am very worried about how the next federal derby would turn out. We have a great generation of players, but the wrong coach.
You need to thank him for everything nice, but move on.
