Juventus star Paul Pogba, 30, has tested positive for doping, and is temporarily suspended from the game. According to several Italian media, it is testosterone and the star’s B sample, with urine from the same occasion as the A sample (the first sample), will now be examined to ensure that it is doping.
Pogba risks, in the worst case, being banned for up to four years if he is deemed to have deliberately doped, something his agent Rafaela Pimenta has said the player has not done.
Now the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus acted in the case and froze Pogba’s salary until further notice. The Turin club is said not to pay wages to the Frenchman in the future – pending more information on the matter.
During Tuesday, the same newspaper also reported that Pogba told the club that he took a nutritional supplement last summer when he was in the United States. According to the newspaper, Pogba claimed, in talks with the club, that he was recommended by a friend, who works in medicine, to take the supplement. At the same time, he is said not to have agreed to the nutritional supplement with the club.
Since his return to Juventus around a year ago, Pogba has been plagued with recurring injury problems. In this season he is noted for two appearances, and last season he accounted for ten games. He has a contract until 2026.
