Vandalism Paralyzes New York Subway’s W Line: Repairs Underway

NEW YORK.- An act of vandalism that occurred on Tuesday night paralyzed train service on the New York subway’s W line on Wednesday morning.

According to the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), one or more vandals caused damage to 78 windows on 35 trains from the inside, while they were in service. The magnitude of the damage has led authorities to run out of spare glass for repairs.

As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 25 train sets had been repaired, but hundreds of thousands of users were affected by these acts of vandalism. The MTA has focused its efforts on making necessary repairs and effectively restoring service.

These acts of vandalism have also impacted the services of the B, D, N, F and Q lines. The cost of repairs could reach a six-figure figure.

Vandalism thwarts NYC Transit officials

NYC Transit President Richard Davey expressed his frustration at this situation, noting: “We’re really upset, can I say that? I mean, seriously, we’re working, I have train crews waiting in the break room that don’t work.” “They have W trains to operate. They want to be in service. When these things happen, it frustrates me greatly and I know it frustrates our riders as well. They just want to get home, go to work and get around town.”

The police highlighted that the subway’s video surveillance system is extensive and solid, and they hope it can provide useful clues to identify those responsible for these acts of vandalism.

Authorities urge anyone with information about these incidents to contact a police officer or MTA employee, or call NYPD CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

These incidents have had a strong impact on the lives of New Yorkers and highlight the need to maintain safety and respect in the public transportation system, which is vital for the city’s mobility.
